Flexi Template Skeleton for Joomla

LeftThis template is a combination of elements and techniques we gleaned from using the templates provided with the Joomla install (rhuk_milkyway, ja_purity, and beez) as our defaults.

The template includes Collapsible Columns, and Colour, Background, and Width Variations accessible through the Backend Template Manager.

It resulted out of necessity - we needed a bare-bones template skeleton flexible enough to suit a variety of layouts, and simple enough to be customised effectively. This template is to be used as a starting point, something to build upon. We're releasing it to the community in hopes that it may be useful to others, and for debugging. We will be updating the code as we go.

The bright colours and the hatched background are used to make obvious the different and corresponding elements. The colour is typed next to the hexadecimal values in the CSS for easy association.

We have included notations throughout. We hope to make this as easy and as clear as possible :) Feedback welcome.

About a week after posting this, I came across a template skeleton courtesy of Waseem at Bulletproof Templates.

I had mixed feelings... His is much better :) I was on the right track, but his php and javascript additions make it that much more flexible so...

I've been exploring it since, and will be upgrading this template very soon. I've integrated the two, and added a few personal preferences, like a colour code, and juggling modules around a bit.

Stay tuned...

Joomla tip of the day

How do we know where a position is for a given template?

Joomla! has an easy way to see the template positions for any page. Just add the code ?tp=1 to the end of the URL.

So, for example, go back to the front end and enter the URL http://www.emc23.com?tp=1
